Mission & Vision
About Walk Around Philadelphia
Walk Around Philadelphia began as an artist’s experiment in walking the city’s 100-mile edge and has evolved into a participatory public-art project engaging thousands of participants through year-round programs, community partnerships, and exhibitions. Rooted in art, access, and curiosity, the walk invites people to encounter the city from its margins and to connect with one another through shared exploration, reflection, and care.

Mission
Walk Around Philadelphia fosters connection, curiosity, and care by inviting people to explore the city’s edges together. Through year-round walking experiences, community partnerships, and equitable access initiatives, the project reimagines walking as a creative, civic, and restorative act that helps Philadelphians see their city—and one another—anew.
Vision
We envision a Philadelphia where walking the city’s perimeter is a shared rite of passage—an experience that connects every resident and newcomer to the landscapes, histories, and communities that shape our collective life. Within a generation, Walk Around Philadelphia will stand as a cultural institution embedded in education, reentry, and civic programs—where youth, returning citizens, students, workers, and neighbors walk together across boundaries, cultivating belonging and stewardship.

A complete revolution around the city border
AND
