Spring Picnic + walk the city’s edge: Heinz Wildlife Refuge

Date:

Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm

This is a 2-3hr, 4-6mile stroll (out & back) along easy flat terrain with an optional picnic lunch beforehand.

You can also just come join us for the picnic, and enjoy the refuge however you'd like!

12-1pm – Picnic (bring your own, and maybe something extra that's easy to share)
1pm Walk start

We'll meet at the covered shelter at the Heinz Wildlife Refuge for an optional BYO-picnic lunch (1-2pm) and then set out at 2pm to follow the city border along Darby Creek through the refuge.

At the south end of the refuge, there's an option to scope out the old trolley right-of-way that may eventually be converted into an official trail under I-95 as part of The Circuit Trails

The Refuge entrance is a bit of a walk from the nearest bus or regional rail station. If driving or looking for a ride, please use the Ride Sharing & Traveling Together forum to coordinate car transportation!
