Support the Walk — in your own way

Walk Around Philadelphia is sustained by generosity, curiosity, and care. Volunteers help welcome new walkers, support logistics, deepen relationships with communities along the perimeter, and strengthen the growing circle of people connected to the Walk.

Some people help once. Others volunteer regularly. Some support walking programs, while others help behind the scenes or from home. There’s no single way to participate — and no expectation beyond what feels right for you.

However you plug in, thank you.

Ways volunteers help:

  • COMMUNITY OUTREACH – Help staff information tables at neighborhood or community events — sharing the Walk with new audiences.
  • EVENT SUPPORT – Assist with setup, cleanup, hospitality, and welcoming guests at community gatherings.
  • DRIVERS – Offer rides for supplies or walkers when needed, especially at the city’s edges.
  • TRAIL ANGELS – Meet walkers along the route with snacks, water, encouragement, and kindness.
  • ONLINE COMMUNITY – Help participate in & support the discussion forums and assist in sharing media & event invites.
  • WALK ACCOMPANISTS – Help facilitate orientation, group care, and shared decision-making during a Walk segment.
  • PARTNER & SITE LIAISONS – Help maintain relationships with partner organizations or sites along the perimeter.
  • LANGUAGE SUPPORT – Assist with outreach in languages other than English or help accompany language-specific walks.
  • DOCUMENTERS & STORYTELLERS – Share your experience — through writing, photos, or speaking at events — to help others understand the Walk.
  • FUNDRAISERS & BACKERS – Support the Walk financially, host a small fundraiser, or invite your network to contribute.
  • FLYERING & DISTRIBUTION – Help share printed materials in your neighborhood or at places you frequent, and/or in a neighborhood that is underrepresented in the walk.

A spirit of mutual care

Volunteering with Walk Around Philadelphia isn’t about filling roles — it’s about cultivating a community of attention, welcome, and shared responsibility.

We value:

Your time and energy are gifts.
Please only offer what feels sustainable.

Interested in volunteering?

We’d love to hear from you.
Tell us what you’re drawn to — and we’ll be in touch as opportunities arise.

A small note: we’re a tiny team. Thank you for your patience if it takes us a little while to respond or offer opportunities.

Not sure yet?

That’s okay. Staying connected is a wonderful first step.

Joining us for a walk, virtual or in-person event, or even just chiming in with a question on the discussion forums are all great ways to start to connect.
