Thanks Graham! This will indeed be an interesting development, and probably a great resource for cyclists who currently have to do that segment on-road, although for this little perimeter segment we already have pretty decent sidewalks right there. The thing that really often leads our groups to cross further upstream is indeed the accessibility (or lack thereof) of the City Ave Bridge.

There are many more trails planned in the region, some of which are along our route, some of which will intersect it and allow for other walking adventures throughout the region.

Your hub for Philly region trail info is: https://circuittrails.org/ – and as of December, Walk Around Philadelphia is one of the newest members of The Circuit Trails Coalition!

The Circuit Trails Status Map is hosted on the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission website at: https://www.dvrpc.org/webmaps/thecircuit/

On it, you’ll find this trail and several more. But you’ll also see that there’s some spots where we’d like trails that they haven’t yet started planning for, and so it’s our job to build a constituency for them and advocate for them.

    On my personal wishlist:

    • Southeast connection of Delaware River Trail around into Navy Yard
    • Trail connections from Platt Bridge to Airport and Heinz (and eventual Tidal Schuylkill River Trail to Ft Mifflin)
    • Hog Island Trail from Ft Mifflin to Heinz the long way ’round the airport
    • Safe access to & from City Ave Bridge sidewalk
    • Safe trail up Manor Road / Hagy’s Mill / Spring Lane
    • Safe trail from Schuylkill Center to Northwestern Ave
    • Upper Poquessing Creek Trail from Trevose Road to Benjamin Rush State Park
    • Lower Poquessing Creek Trail as envisioned in this feasibility study.
    • All of the connections of the upper Delaware River Trail that our pals at Riverfront North Partnership are working on.

We’ve got our work cut out for us!

    Good thing we have time.
